-
Speech sound difficulties – such as unclear pronunciation, stuttering, volume control, and fluency.
-
Expressive language issues – trouble expressing thoughts, needs, or emotions verbally or non-verbally.

Our Approach to Therapy
Play-based Therapy
Play-based therapy is at the heart of everything we do at BillyLids Nerang. Children learn best through play, so our speech pathologists use games, toys, stories and creative activities to make therapy fun and engaging. This play-based approach helps your child learn new words, improve their articulation, and grasp language concepts without it feeling like work. By using interactive play and evidence-based techniques, we keep kids motivated while steadily building their communication skills in each session.
Our speech therapists will first assess your child’s current abilities and communication goals, then design a personalised therapy plan just for them. Depending on your child’s needs, this plan may include introducing communication aids like picture cards, visual schedules, signs or electronic devices to support their understanding and expression. We also value collaboration – our team works closely with parents and even local educators to reinforce progress.

That’s why our Nerang speech pathologists love getting out into the community to work with children in familiar environments. Your therapist can visit you at home in Nerang or conduct therapy sessions at your child’s daycare, kindy, or school. We regularly schedule visits to local early learning centres and kindergartens around Nerang, bringing our play-based therapy on-site so kids can practice skills where they’re most comfortable.

Frequently asked questions
What age children do you work with in speech therapy?
We focus on early childhood, so our speech pathology services are for babies, toddlers, and children up to around 10 years of age. Many children start speech therapy with us in the preschool years (2-5 years old), but we also support school-age kids in early primary. Early intervention is ideal – if you have any concerns about your child’s speech or language development, it’s never too early to get in touch. We’ll tailor our approach to your child’s age and developmental level to make sure therapy is effective (and fun!) for them.
Does my child need a referral or diagnosis to see a speech pathologist?
No, you don’t need any referral or formal diagnosis to come to BillyLids Therapy Nerang. Families are welcome to contact us directly to arrange speech therapy. We see children with and without diagnoses – some children have identified conditions like autism or Down syndrome, while others might just be a bit late to talk or hard to understand. If you are in the process of seeking a diagnosis, we can also work alongside your GP or pediatrician, but it’s not a requirement to start therapy. Our goal is to help your child as soon as you feel they need support.
Is there parking available at the Nerang clinic? How do I get there?
Absolutely – our Nerang clinic has plenty of free parking. We’re located within Riverside Central (1 Station Street, Nerang), which has a large on-site car park including disabled parking spots. There’s also a free council car park along Station Street, so you’ll always find a space. If you’re coming by public transport, the closest bus stop (at Centro Nerang on Station St) is only about a 5-minute walk from our clinic. The clinic itself is on the ground floor and easily accessible for prams or wheelchairs. You’ll find private restroom facilities available for families as well. We’ve tried to make every aspect of visiting our Nerang speech pathology clinic convenient and family-friendly.
Can I use NDIS funding or Medicare for my child’s speech therapy?
Yes, BillyLids Therapy welcomes all funding types. We support families who are NDIS-funded, use Medicare plans, or pay privately. If your child has an NDIS plan (whether self-managed or plan-managed), you can absolutely use it for speech therapy at our clinic or for home visits. We also see children under Medicare’s Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plans or other referral programs – talk to your GP if you think you might be eligible for Medicare-subsidized sessions. Of course, you’re welcome to pay out-of-pocket as well. No matter the funding source, your child will receive the same high-quality, play-based therapy. Our team can guide you through the options and any paperwork needed, so please feel free to ask if you have questions about fees or funding.
