Speech Pathology for Gold Coast Families
How speech therapy helps
Every child deserves to express themselves and be understood. In our Gold Coast clinic and surrounding community settings, we work with children to build strong speech and language foundations using engaging, child-led therapy.
We support a wide range of communication needs, including:
-
Speech delays and sound errors – articulation, stuttering, fluency, voice volume
-
Expressive language – helping children clearly share their wants, ideas, and emotions
-
Receptive language – improving understanding of words, instructions, tone, and non-verbal cues
-
Alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) – including key word signing, gestures, and communication devices
-
Early literacy – developing reading comprehension, phonological awareness, and verbal memory

Play-Based Speech Therapy in Gold Coast
How we deliver therapy
At BillyLids, play isn’t a break from therapy—it’s how therapy happens. Our speech pathologists use games, books, toys and movement-based activities to make sessions both fun and purposeful.
Whether we’re working on word formation, social language, or following directions, everything we do is grounded in evidence and tailored to your child’s developmental stage and interests.
After an initial assessment, we create a personalised therapy plan that might include communication tools such as visual aids, AAC devices, or gesture-based strategies.

Frequently asked questions
What are my payment options for speech therapy? Is there funding available?
At BillyLids Therapy Gold Coast, we support both privately paying families and those accessing funding through the NDIS, Medicare, or private health insurance. All of our speech pathologists hold Medicare provider numbers, so with the right referral, you may be eligible for rebates. Some families also claim through their private health fund depending on their level of extras cover.
For full details, visit our Fees & Funding page or reach out to our friendly admin team—we’re happy to walk you through your options.
How do I get started at BillyLids Therapy Gold Coast?
We aim to make your start with us as simple and supportive as possible. Here’s what the typical process looks like:
1. Complimentary Discovery Call
We begin with a free 15-minute phone call to get to know your child’s needs, match you with the right therapist, and book your preferred session times. Many of our Gold Coast clients prefer consistent weekly or fortnightly appointments.2. Parent/Carer Initial Appointment
Your first formal session will be between you and your therapist, either at the clinic or via Zoom. This is your chance to share your child’s history, developmental journey, and therapy goals in a relaxed and welcoming environment.3. First Session with Your Child
This is all about making your child feel safe and comfortable. We use fun, low-pressure activities to build rapport and begin informal observations.4. Assessment Phase
Over the following sessions, we carry out formal assessments while still keeping therapy playful and engaging.5. Intervention Begins
Once we’ve developed a clear understanding of your child’s strengths and needs, we begin goal-based intervention through carefully planned, play-based activities. Can my child see both a speech pathologist and an occupational therapist?
Yes! BillyLids Therapy Gold Coast is a child-focused multidisciplinary clinic, and many families choose to access both speech and occupational therapy. Whether your child needs support with communication, sensory processing, motor skills—or all of the above—we can tailor a therapy plan that works for you. We’ll chat about this during your discovery call.
Does my child need a diagnosis to see a speech pathologist?
Not at all. Children can access speech therapy with or without a formal diagnosis. In fact, many families come to us seeking early support while they’re still exploring or waiting for a diagnosis. Others simply want to help their child strengthen specific speech or language skills.
Do I need a referral to book a speech therapy appointment?
No referral is needed to access speech pathology services at our Gold Coast clinic. However, if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate, you’ll need a GP referral under an eligible care plan, such as the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan. We’re also experienced in supporting families using NDIS funding.
Is bulk billed speech therapy available in Gold Coast?
Your child may qualify for subsidised sessions under the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) or CDM Medicare plan, which allows for up to five rebated allied health visits per calendar year. This needs to be arranged through your GP, who will assess your child’s eligibility.
