Frequently asked questions

  • How Can I Pay for Occupational Therapy in Norman Park?

At BillyLids Therapy, we cater to both privately paying and funded clients in Norman Park and surrounding areas. Our team of occupational therapists is registered with Medicare, allowing us to provide therapy under Enhanced Primary Care Plans (EPC) or Chronic Disease Management Plans. We also offer services for NDIS clients who are either plan-managed or self-managed. For more details on available funding options and fees, please visit our Fees & Funding page.

  • What Is the Process for Starting Occupational Therapy?

While every child’s needs are unique, the general process at BillyLids Therapy usually follows these steps:

    1. Discovery Call: To begin, we’ll arrange a complimentary 15-minute discovery call to discuss your child’s requirements, match them with the best-suited therapist, and schedule your sessions. Routine is beneficial for most children, so we suggest weekly or fortnightly visits.

    2. Initial Parent/Carer Appointment: In this first formal appointment, you (the parent or carer) will meet with your child’s therapist. This is a great time to discuss your child’s development, review any past therapy experiences, and set goals together. The meeting can take place at our Norman Park clinic or via Zoom for convenience.

    3. Child’s First Appointment: The primary focus of your child’s first appointment is to build trust and make them feel at ease. We’ll observe and engage with your child through informal assessments, ensuring they feel comfortable and excited for their future appointments.

    4. Formal Assessment: For sessions 3 to 5, we conduct formal assessments. Though these appointments are structured, we ensure that they are still fun and engaging for your child, helping them feel relaxed while we gather essential information.

    5. Therapeutic Intervention: From session 5 onward, we start implementing therapy interventions to support your child’s development. Whether it’s improving physical abilities, social skills, or everyday tasks, we make sure each activity is purposeful, even if it looks like play. Our paediatric occupational therapists are passionate about finding innovative ways to help children learn through play.

  • Can My Child See a Speech Pathologist and Occupational Therapist in Norman Park?

Absolutely! Many of our families in Norman Park choose to see both speech pathologists and occupational therapists. BillyLids Therapy was designed as a multidisciplinary clinic specifically for kids, making it easier for families to access multiple services under one roof. During your discovery call, we’ll discuss your child’s needs and help you determine the right combination of therapies.

  • Does My Child Need a Diagnosis to See an Occupational Therapist in Norman Park?

No, your child does not need a formal diagnosis to access therapy. Many children at BillyLids Therapy don’t have a diagnosis but still benefit from support with sensory, social, or physical challenges. Whether your child is working towards a diagnosis or simply needs extra help, we’re here to support their development.

  • Do I Need a Referral to See an Occupational Therapist?

A referral is not required to see an occupational therapist at BillyLids Therapy unless your child is eligible for a Medicare rebate. If this applies, you will need a referral from your GP. If you are privately paying or using NDIS funding, no referral is necessary. Just remember, for Medicare rebates, a referral from your GP is a must.

  • Can My Child Receive Bulk-Billed Occupational Therapy in Norman Park?

Your child might be eligible for the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan, which offers up to five subsidised visits to allied health professionals such as occupational therapists and speech pathologists each calendar year. To check if your child qualifies, please visit your GP for an assessment.
