-
Expressive language challenges – helping children clearly share their thoughts, needs, and emotions
-
Receptive language difficulties – improving understanding of spoken language, instructions, gestures, and tone
-

-
Literacy and early reading skills – building comprehension, vocabulary, and phonological awareness

Fun, Play-Based Speech Therapy in Brisbane
Our therapeutic approach
Children learn best through play—and that’s exactly how we deliver therapy at BillyLids. Our Brisbane speech therapists use playful, hands-on activities to teach new communication skills and build confidence. Sessions are tailored to your child’s interests, abilities, and goals.
Through books, games, storytelling, and interactive resources, we help children strengthen their language, speech, and social communication in ways that feel natural and fun.
Your child’s therapist will design an individualised therapy plan, which may include visual supports, communication aids, and strategies suited to their unique way of learning.

Frequently asked questions
How do I pay for speech therapy? Are funding options available?
At BillyLids Therapy Brisbane, we welcome both privately paying families and those accessing funding. Our team of registered speech pathologists can support children under the NDIS, and most therapists hold Medicare provider numbers, which may allow for rebates with the right referral. Depending on your private health insurer and level of extras cover, you might also be able to claim part of your child’s sessions.
To explore all available options, visit our Fees & Funding page or chat with our admin team for personalised support.
What’s the process for starting therapy at BillyLids Brisbane?
Every child’s journey is unique, but here’s how we typically welcome new families into our Brisbane clinics:
1. Complimentary Discovery Call
We’ll start with a free 15-minute phone consultation to learn more about your child’s needs, match you with the right therapist, and find appointment times that suit your schedule. Many families find regular weekly or fortnightly sessions work best.2. Parent or Carer Consultation
The first formal appointment is for you—the parent or carer—to meet your therapist (either in person or via Zoom). This is your opportunity to share your child’s history, development, and goals in a relaxed, no-pressure setting.3. First Session with Your Child
Our top priority is to make your child feel comfortable. In this session, we focus on connection, building trust, and having fun while gathering informal observations.4. Assessment Sessions
Over the next few sessions, we conduct structured assessments—always keeping things playful and low-stress for your little one.5. Ongoing Therapy
From here, we begin working on targeted goals. Whether it looks like playtime or storytime, every activity is part of a carefully crafted therapeutic plan. Can my child access both a speech pathologist and an occupational therapist?
Yes! We’ve designed our Brisbane clinics to be truly child-focused and multidisciplinary. Many families benefit from having access to both speech and occupational therapy under one roof. If you’re unsure which services your child needs, we can discuss it during your discovery call and create a plan that supports your child from every angle.
Does my child need a diagnosis to see a speech pathologist in Brisbane?
Not at all. A formal diagnosis isn’t required to access our services. We work with many Brisbane families whose children don’t yet have a diagnosis, are currently being assessed, or simply need some extra support to strengthen their communication skills.
Do I need a referral to access speech therapy?
A GP referral is not necessary to see a speech pathologist at BillyLids Therapy Brisbane. However, if your child qualifies for Medicare rebates under a specific plan—like the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan—you’ll need a referral from your GP to claim those benefits.
Speech therapy can also be funded through your child’s NDIS plan if they’re eligible.
Is bulk billing available for speech pathology in Brisbane?
Your child may be eligible for up to five subsidised therapy sessions per year under a Medicare Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan. This allows access to allied health support such as speech pathology or occupational therapy with a partial rebate.
Eligibility is determined by your GP, so we recommend having a chat with them first. For more detail, check out our blog: Navigating Funding Options for Children’s Allied Health Services.
